UN BOURG MILLENAIRE<\/strong><\/h3>\n

L\u2019Escar\u00e8ne<\/strong> est cit\u00e9 d\u00e8s le XIe si\u00e8cle<\/strong> : en 1037<\/strong>, une \u00e9glise Saint-Pierre y est mentionn\u00e9e, et le village faisait alors partie du fief de Lescarena<\/strong>, sous l\u2019autorit\u00e9 de l\u2019abbaye Saint-Pons de Nice<\/strong>. Un ch\u00e2teau m\u00e9di\u00e9val<\/strong> y fut m\u00eame construit au XIIIe si\u00e8cle, avant sa destruction en 1252.<\/p>\n

UN CARREFOUR STRAT\u00c9GIQUE<\/h2>\n

Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la route du sel<\/strong>, qui reliait Nice au Pi\u00e9mont<\/strong> via L\u2019Escar\u00e8ne et Luc\u00e9ram, le village devient une \u00e9tape marchande importante<\/strong>. Plus tard, la construction de la route royale par le col de Tende<\/strong> renforce son r\u00f4le de relais routier<\/strong>, positionnant le Caf\u00e9 de l\u2019Union au c\u0153ur d\u2019un lieu de passage vivant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
